Originally released in 1996 on cassette via AudioFile Tapes. Remixed / remastered in 2009 for net release on Vuzh Music. While I don't think that much of the music presented here is ambient in the accepted modern sense, and although I wouldn't call this music ambient today, it is clearly a music of patience. In time for another guest-artist spot-ahhh (The Fall!), we have 4T Thieves. He's previously been resident in England, Finland, and now England again, and was formerly an Alcatraz member. You could say he's a pretty oldskool mofo, having written travel diaries in Anarchy's "Stolen Data" mag way back when and done a number of cool Jarre mix-ups a while back. :) Anyhow, the electronic ambience of this beatless track is a nice tonic to all the hihats and snares that have been appearing in...

BERLIN, May, 1st 1996: The Fake Masters climb onto the roof of their squat “DUNCKERLAND”. Today the demonstration will lead pass here and the fake masters, Scribble, Bblitch and UHER want to record and play to it simultaneously. It´s a sunny day. The four-track-recorder and UHER could f*** up. They build a little shelter. This shelter attracts the helicopter of the police forces. Well, Mono's especially pleased to feature a guest release from one of the masters of the PC elektronik sound, Keith303 of Radical Rhythms. This track was composed 'specially for Mono, and was to have been part of a Mono vs. RR EP, until spare time problems forced that to one side for a while. But we still intend to get a Mono and RR co-operation going sometime in the future, so watch out for that one... and in the meantime, enjoy this wikked track.

Mountain Chicken was a short-lived Orlando band consisting of Ken Aguilar (guitar, ukelele, vocals), Todd Elliott (drums, bass, vocals), Brian Salmons (guitar, bagpipe practice chanter, vocals) and, for one session, Matt Bailey (guitar). The band was named after a species of frog native to the Caribbean island of Monserrat. The frog is large and the locals hunt it for food, for which reasons they call it a "mountain chicken". THE BASS This piece is a complicated construction. It doesn’t sound like it but listen to the story… It is the second piece of the fake masters ever, it started in 1994. They went off with UHER to record west-berlin as a sequel to “..and their stoned wifes” which recorded east-berlin. They went to kudamm, the ICC, the teufelsberg, the quarry, the tiergarten, the Reichstag and a telephonebox. They started recording in the telephonebox, they had a small guitar and played inside the box....

The debut EP from rather way-out Mono member Vim!, this serves as a showcase for his, well, totally original style. There sure as hell ain't many tunes like this coming out, and it makes a refreshing change to hear something different. Even if "Your Cup Of Tea" is so far out, it makes 4T Thieves' ambient madness sound relatively normal. The Justified Ancients of Mono return with a twirling, swirling takedown of a release from The Fox II, who's decided to deconstruct a certain famous ambient band in his own inimitable style. And by golly, he's done a smart job. The bonus track, "Habitation", is another example of the wickedly original hard Dutch style, which I have extreme difficulty in categorising. Here we go again with one of the strangest Mono releases so far, but still a _very_ nice one. Carebear's got some strange ideas in that twisted little head of his, anyhow. :) This tune is actually quite choppy in a weird way, but it's flowing too. And lots of nice percussion always makes me feel better after a long day at the office. See, we _do_ come up with something different to the normal trance/jungle output we seem to put out.

Twilight's giving off some _serious_ good vibes with this hardstepping, longstriding release.. kicking it monostylee. :) He's also released a strictly hush-hush, get-it-if-you-can unofficial Mono release called m_petrol, which is VERY big and a remix of a rather smart Orbital track. It also trashed my hard disc when I was trying to uujoin it (nothing to do with the file, it's just my hard drive is dying and I'm looking for something to blame it on!), so don't expect to see it released...

Wow. I hate being accused of over-hyping Mono, but this track just rules. I've been listening to almost constantly ever since Mortimer Tee mailed it to me about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and I'm delighted I finally got a chance to release it. What's the step above that Mortimer takes? I'm not really sure, but his tunes have so much soul, and that's all too often missing in MODs. And yet, it's got the moves too - listen to that drum-break strut and spin. *sigh*. Anyhow, enough hype. Just enjoy.

Another double-release, this time from TheFoxII, and the title track wins the award for the Mono tune which makes us jump around the most, ever. Yes, ever. Speed those housevocals up, throw in some breakbeats, we got a guaranteed barnstormer, it seems. As for the second track, it's a smart return to the style of earlier TFII releases on Mono - those chords are an absolute bitch to loop, tho. :)
